For the first time ever, I told a friend that I identified more as gay than as a Latino. That’s not because I don’t identify as Latino—I do—it’s just that being gay was more of a struggle growing up and it took me a lot longer to grow comfortable with that aspect of myself. It’s also because the people who have always been able to help me out of the rough patches in life have been overwhelmingly LGBTQ or allied, which made me grow to eventually appreciate that part of me so much more. That said, I need to get back in touch with the Latina princess inside me. Cue the holidays. I’ll be eating, drinking, dancing, and breathing enough Latino to turn a white man into Antonio Banderas.
